Breakfast Comix 16: Breakfast with Due Cochon: Tom Raworth
Because
the asking
of original
questions
is a
consequence
of
interferences
and because
interferences
are products
of
time sequences
it follows
that original
questions
are both
functions
and products
of
time.
*
All
the great
ideologies
of the
world
are
predicated
on Malthus’
assumption
that
there is
not
enough
to sustain
both
you
and me.
*
If
you play
James
Brown’s
“Money
Won’t
Change
You”
in a
bank
the total
environment
is changed.
*
The only
people
who will
escape
will be
those
who have
the
seal
of God
on their
foreheads.
*
The bitter
and
frustrated
residual
feeling
due to
a lousy
shtup
afflicts
millions more
Americans
than does
halitosis.
*
It
is not
surprising
that faced
with
universal
destruction
our art
should
at last
speak
with unimpeded
force
and unveiled
honesty
to a future
which
may well
be non-existent
in
a last
effort
of recognition
which
is the
justification
of
being.
*
Applied
to the
brain
we find
that this
device
which is
about
the size
and shape
of a
beer bottle
can
penetrate
the neural
noise
and gossip
so that
we can
detect
and recognize
the specific
or general
response
to our
sensory
interrogation
at levels
of signal
that
we never
dreamed
of before.
*
The mammals
give off
the gases
that are
necessary
to
the survival
of
the vegetation
while
the vegetation
gives off
the gases
that are
necessary
to
the survival
of
the mammals.
*
The orders
given
the machine
are fed
into it
by
a taping
which is
completely
predetermined
but
the actual
contingencies
met
in the
performance
of the
machine
are handed
over
as
a basis
of
further regulation
to
a new
control tape
constructed
by
the machine
itself.

Tom, Malthus in the middle--the scary heart of darkness. I want, I want, I want--vs.--not enuf, not enuf, not enuf. Thanks for these poems--for moving through the rocks and hard places toward something other....
